The East European ceramic tile market expanded significantly to $X in 2022, increasing by 5.5% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of ceramic tiles, when their volume decreased by -22.6% to X square meters. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, ceramic tile exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In 2022, Poland (X square meters), distantly followed by Russia (X square meters), Belarus (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters) and Bulgaria (X square meters) were the major exporters of ceramic tiles, together creating 94% of total exports. Ukraine (X square meters) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +6.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest ceramic tile supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 14% share.

In Poland, ceramic tile exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+3.6% per year) and Russia (+4.0% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per square meter, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per square meter), while Belarus ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of ceramic tiles in Eastern Europe shrank to X square meters, which is down by -10.4% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports fell to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 25%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In 2022, Russia (X square meters), distantly followed by Romania (X square meters), Poland (X square meters), Hungary (X square meters) and the Czech Republic (X square meters) represented the largest importers of ceramic tiles, together comprising 75% of total imports. Slovakia (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters), Belarus (X square meters), Lithuania (X square meters), Ukraine (X square meters), Latvia (X square meters) and Moldova (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Poland, with a CAGR of +10.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per square meter, surging by 8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per square meter), while Latvia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
