These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Estonia, Russia and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Estonia, with a CAGR of +97.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per square meter, reducing by -24.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per square meter), while Russia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of chamois, patent and combination leather increased by 4.1% to X square meters, rising for the second consecutive year after six years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chamois, patent and combination leather imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. Hungary (-7.8%), the Czech Republic (-8.6%), Bulgaria (-9.6%) and Poland (-14.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
