In terms of the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +17.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -27.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 6.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 72%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +7.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -27.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
