As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chemical contraceptive preparations imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 52% of total imports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Ukraine (8.7%), Romania (8%), Hungary (6.1%) and the Czech Republic (6%). Belarus (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of chemical contraceptive preparations based on hormones or spermicides. Ukraine and Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Poland (-1.5%), Belarus (-1.7%), Romania (-2.7%) and the Czech Republic (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+5.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-3.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chemical contraceptive preparations based on hormones or spermicides in Eastern Europe, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 9.5% share.
In Russia, chemical contraceptive preparations imports declined by an average annual rate of -3.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-5.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (-8.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -7.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 14% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
