As a result, production reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dissolving grade wood pulp exports contracted to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the Czech Republic (X tons) was the major exporter of dissolving grade wood pulp in Eastern Europe, constituting 99% of total export.

The Czech Republic was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dissolving grade wood pulp exports, with a CAGR of +8.2% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of the Czech Republic (+42 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, dissolving grade wood pulp imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The Czech Republic represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together comprising a 35% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into the Czech Republic increased at an average annual rate of +23.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+73.2%), Bulgaria (+65.0%) and Slovakia (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +73.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-7.5%) and Poland (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Czech Republic (+34 p.p.), Russia (+12 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Slovakia, Belarus and Poland saw its share reduced by -4.1%, -9.7% and -47.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dissolving grade wood pulp in Eastern Europe, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 7.5% share.

In the Czech Republic, dissolving grade wood pulp imports expanded at an average annual rate of +24.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bulgaria (+45.7% per year) and Russia (+59.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
