Chicken Table Egg Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European chicken table egg market reduced slightly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Chicken Table Egg Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, chicken table egg production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 7.8%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of chicken table egg production, comprising approx. 50% of total volume. Moreover, chicken table egg production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Ukraine (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 13% share.

In Russia, chicken table egg production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Ukraine (-2.3% per year) and Poland (+2.0% per year).

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of chicken table eggs were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chicken table egg exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 51% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Latvia (X tons), Russia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Romania (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 35% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chicken table eggs exports, with a CAGR of +12.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+11.9%), Russia (+10.2%), Latvia (+9.9%), Romania (+9.5%) and Belarus (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ukraine (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland and Ukraine increased by +9.9 and +6.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest chicken table egg supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Latvia ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +14.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Latvia (+10.1% per year) and Ukraine (-9.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 29% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, chicken table egg export price increased by +52.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, imports of chicken table eggs in Eastern Europe expanded to X tons, with an increase of 3.9% against 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, chicken table egg imports surged to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +93.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the eight major importers of chicken table eggs, namely Russia, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Estonia, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +16.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest chicken table egg importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Hungary ($X) and Latvia ($X), together comprising 47% of total imports.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +16.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
