Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chili and pepper exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 11%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) represented the major exporters of chilies and peppers (green) in 2022, resulting at near 38% and 27% of total exports, respectively. Russia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.4% share, followed by the Czech Republic (7.8%) and Bulgaria (7%). The following exporters - Belarus (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +66.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Hungary ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 75% of total exports. Bulgaria, Latvia, Belarus and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
Russia, with a CAGR of +56.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of chilies and peppers (green) increased by 7.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chili and pepper imports expanded to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Belarus (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) represented the key importers of chilies and peppers (green), together creating 89% of total imports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 8.5%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
