Clasp Knife Market Size in Eastern Europe

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 163%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, approx. X units of clasp knives were exported in Eastern Europe; with a decrease of -11.5% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, clasp knife exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Poland represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 39% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Slovakia (X units), together creating a 44% share of total exports. Belarus (X units), Hungary (X units), Latvia (X units) and Romania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of clasp knives. At the same time, Belarus (+56.0%), Russia (+51.1%), Romania (+48.4%), Slovakia (+18.3%), Latvia (+7.4%), the Czech Republic (+4.4%) and Hungary (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +56.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia, Slovakia, Belarus and Romania increased by +19, +5, +4.3 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest clasp knife supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +14.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+15.0% per year) and Slovakia (+31.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, waning by -3.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, clasp knife export price increased by +58.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+14.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
For the seventh consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of clasp knives, which increased by 16% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, clasp knife imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia was the largest importer of clasp knives in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was approx. 61% of total imports in 2022. Poland (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units). All these countries together held near 25% share of total imports. Hungary (X units), Ukraine (X units) and Slovakia (X units) held a little share of total imports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the clasp knives imports, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hungary (+12.3%), Poland (+6.5%), Romania (+4.9%), the Czech Republic (+3.7%) and Slovakia (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ukraine (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia increased by +24 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest clasp knife importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports.
Poland, with a CAGR of +11.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -17.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
