Poland was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 45% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons), together making up a 49% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belarus (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - together made up 4.3% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +67.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hungary ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 92% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 3.9%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +50.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, colour lake export price decreased by -3.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, colour lake imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the largest importers of colour lakes, preparations based on colour lakes in 2021, accounting for approx. 20% and 20% of total imports, respectively. The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, colour lake import price increased by +70.8% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
