In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the East European computing machinery market, when its value decreased by -8.2% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw a prominent increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, computing machinery production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, enjoyed a perceptible expansion. As a result, production reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports in Eastern Europe
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof decreased by -8.8% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, computing machinery exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +64.9% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 45% of total exports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 25% share, followed by Hungary (13%) and Slovakia (6.2%). Romania (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +9.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest computing machinery supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 12% share.
In the Czech Republic, computing machinery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+8.9% per year) and Hungary (+3.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, computing machinery export price increased by +95.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+12.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Computing Machinery Imports
Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof decreased by -19.1% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, computing machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +76.4% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
The Czech Republic was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 52% of total imports. Russia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons). All these countries together took near 36% share of total imports. The following importers - Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - together made up 8.1% of total imports.
The Czech Republic was also the fastest-growing in terms of the computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof imports, with a CAGR of +10.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+4.2%) and Romania (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-3.7%), Ukraine (-4.0%) and Slovakia (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Czech Republic (+23 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland and Russia saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -2.7%, -3.5% and -14% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest computing machinery importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Russia ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising 75% of total imports. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
Among the main importing countries, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +11.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 42% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
