The East European concentrated apple juice market dropped to $X in 2021, shrinking by -12.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, concentrated apple juice exports in Eastern Europe rose sharply to X tons, growing by 12% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 38%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 18%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland was the key exporter of concentrated apple juice in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 59% of total exports in 2021. Ukraine (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (11%) and Moldova (11%).

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of concentrated apple juice. At the same time, Moldova (+8.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +8.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hungary (-1.6%) and Ukraine (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Moldova (+5.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Ukraine (-3.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest concentrated apple juice supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.

In Poland, concentrated apple juice exports shrank by an average annual rate of -3.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (-6.7% per year) and Hungary (-4.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Hungary ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) and Ukraine ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (-2.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the fourth year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded decline in purchases abroad of concentrated apple juice, which decreased by -1.2% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the main importer of concentrated apple juice in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 55% of total imports in 2021. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Belarus (4.8%) and Hungary (4.5%). The following importers - Ukraine (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -4.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+14.8%), Ukraine (+9.5%), Belarus (+8.4%) and the Czech Republic (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +14.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary, Belarus and Ukraine increased by +3.5, +3 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated apple juice in Eastern Europe, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 5.1% share.

In Russia, concentrated apple juice imports decreased by an average annual rate of -8.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-5.4% per year) and Hungary (+9.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
