In 2021, the East European concentrated orange juice market increased by 9.1% to $X, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice production reduced slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 6.2% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X tons of concentrated orange juice were exported in Eastern Europe; picking up by 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports showed a strong expansion. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Romania prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), generating a 5.2% share of total exports. The following exporters - Russia (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) - each finished at a 9.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated orange juice exports from Romania stood at +34.5%. At the same time, Belarus (+45.0%) and Russia (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +45.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Bulgaria (-4.9%) and the Czech Republic (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Romania (+69 p.p.) and Belarus (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Bulgaria (-6.5 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-15.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Romania ($X) remains the largest concentrated orange juice supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Romania totaled +26.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (-3.0% per year) and Russia (+5.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 7.3%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of concentrated orange juice increased by 13% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +71.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +69.3% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) represented the largest importers of concentrated orange juice, together making up 86% of total imports. The following importers - Bulgaria (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - each finished at an 8.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest concentrated orange juice importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Romania ($X), together comprising 79% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +7.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
