Totaliser Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European totaliser market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Totaliser Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, totaliser production expanded notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 92% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Eastern Europe

Totaliser exports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, with an increase of 54% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, totaliser exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 58% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Hungary (X units) and Russia (X units). All these countries together took near 30% share of total exports. Slovakia (X units), Latvia (X units) and Romania (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the continuous and discontinuous totalisers exports, with a CAGR of +35.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Romania (+11.2%) and Russia (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Latvia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovakia (-5.3%), Hungary (-6.2%) and the Czech Republic (-16.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+55 p.p.) and Russia (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hungary and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -2.8% and -55.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest totaliser supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Russia ($X), together comprising 70% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Latvia, Hungary and Romania, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +18.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, waning by -48.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 137%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+12.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, approx. X units of continuous and discontinuous totalisers were imported in Eastern Europe; picking up by 51% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +107.8% against 2019 indices. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, totaliser imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X units), distantly followed by Bulgaria (X units), Hungary (X units), Russia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Ukraine (X units) were the main importers of continuous and discontinuous totalisers, together committing 86% of total imports. The following importers - Slovakia (X units) and Belarus (X units) - each recorded a 7.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +43.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest totaliser importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), together comprising 63% of total imports.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +18.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -39% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
