In 2021, overseas shipments of crawler tractors increased by 14% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crawler tractor exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X units) and Poland (X units) were the largest exporters of crawler tractors in 2021, accounting for near 34% and 24% of total exports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Lithuania (9.7%), Hungary (4.8%) and Slovakia (4.8%). Latvia (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +28.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest crawler tractor supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Hungary ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 65% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +36.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 79% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of crawler tractors increased by 33% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crawler tractor imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the largest importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at 31% of total imports. Ukraine (X units) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (10%), Slovakia (8.4%), the Czech Republic (7%), Lithuania (5.6%), Estonia (5.4%) and Poland (4.9%).

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Estonia (+30.5%), Ukraine (+8.2%), Slovakia (+6.3%), Lithuania (+5.6%), Poland (+5.5%), the Czech Republic (+2.7%) and Romania (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +30.5% from 2012-2021. Ukraine (+6.7 p.p.), Estonia (+4.9 p.p.), Slovakia (+2.9 p.p.) and Lithuania (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -14.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crawler tractors in Eastern Europe, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Romania, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ukraine (+4.8% per year) and Romania (+2.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 30% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Estonia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
