Crispbread Market Size in Eastern Europe
The East European crispbread market rose sharply to $X in 2021, picking up by 12% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of crispbread decreased by -4% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crispbread exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) was the main exporter of crispbread in Eastern Europe, committing 84% of total export. It was distantly followed by Bulgaria (X tons), making up a 4.6% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belarus (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) - each amounted to a 6.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +41.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Lithuania ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 68% of total exports. Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +39.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of crispbread, when their volume decreased by -13.4% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, crispbread imports dropped modestly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +52.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 25%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of crispbread imports in 2021 were Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Russia (X tons), Romania (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together recording 88% of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +13.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 57% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Among the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +12.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
