Curtains Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the East European curtains market, when its value decreased by -5.8% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 6.2% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Curtains Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, curtains production rose notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 27%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the amount of curtains and interior blinds exported in Eastern Europe contracted modestly to X square meters, dropping by -3.3% on the year before. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.1% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 10%. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, curtains exports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +83.8% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the main exporter of curtains and interior blinds in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports recording X square meters, which was near 58% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X square meters) and Romania (X square meters), together creating a 25% share of total exports. The following exporters - Russia (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters), Belarus (X square meters) and Hungary (X square meters) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to curtains exports from Poland stood at +5.1%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+40.0%), Russia (+14.4%), Hungary (+11.0%), Romania (+7.0%) and the Czech Republic (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +40.0% from 2012-2022. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Bulgaria and Russia increased by +2.4 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Romania ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 86% of total exports. Hungary, Russia, Belarus and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.9%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +39.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per square meter, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 9.9%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter, leveling off in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while Bulgaria ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

After six years of growth, supplies from abroad of curtains and interior blinds decreased by -8.8% to X square meters in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, curtains imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X square meters) was the largest importer of curtains and interior blinds, creating 41% of total imports. Poland (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by Slovakia (11%), Romania (5.8%) and the Czech Republic (5.3%). The following importers - Hungary (X square meters) and Bulgaria (X square meters) - together made up 7.2% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +22.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest curtains importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 64% of total imports. Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +20.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per square meter in 2022, which is down by -2.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while Russia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
