Crane Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European crane market dropped to $X in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Crane Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, crane production expanded remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 40% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, approx. X units of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane were exported in Eastern Europe; shrinking by -12.2% compared with the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -28.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crane exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the main exporter of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 44% of total exports in 2022. Slovakia (X units) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (12%), Estonia (8%) and the Czech Republic (7.8%). Hungary (X units) and Lithuania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to crane exports from Poland stood at +7.4%. At the same time, Slovakia (+32.5%), the Czech Republic (+10.5%) and Russia (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +32.5% from 2012-2022. Estonia and Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Lithuania (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Russia increased by +13, +11, +3.4 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest crane supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovakia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 8.3% share.

In Poland, crane exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Slovakia (+19.7% per year) and the Czech Republic (+8.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -1.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 16%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, imports of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane in Eastern Europe contracted to X units, waning by -9.5% on the year before. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crane imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X units), distantly followed by Poland (X units), Romania (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Hungary (X units) and Ukraine (X units) represented the major importers of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane, together creating 82% of total imports. Belarus (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +24.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
