Desktop Computer Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European desktop computer market shrank to $X in 2021, dropping by -12.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Desktop Computer Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, desktop computer production dropped significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 266% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, overseas shipments of desktop computers increased by 72% to X units, rising for the fifth consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, exports posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, desktop computer exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 270%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Poland was the main exporter of desktop computers in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 66% of total exports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Romania (X units). All these countries together took approx. 28% share of total exports. Hungary (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to desktop computer exports from Poland stood at +31.1%. At the same time, Romania (+37.8%) and the Czech Republic (+13.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +37.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hungary (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+44 p.p.) and Romania (+6.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-4.8 p.p.) and Hungary (-37.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 97% of total exports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +47.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 191% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+21.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, supplies from abroad of desktop computers increased by 7.5% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, desktop computer imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Poland (X units), Romania (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented roughly 65% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Hungary (X units), together achieving a 24% share of total imports. Ukraine (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +15.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest desktop computer importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Among the main importing countries, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +17.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+11.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
