In 2022, approx. X tons of diazo-, azo- or azoxy-compounds were exported in Eastern Europe; which is down by -21.9% on the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, azo- or azoxy-compounds exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +24.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Latvia dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2022. Russia (X tons) held a 9.1% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Lithuania (8.5%) and the Czech Republic (4.8%). The following exporters - Estonia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - each amounted to a 4% share of total exports.

Latvia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of diazo-, azo- or azoxy-compounds. At the same time, Lithuania (+83.6%), the Czech Republic (+59.9%), Estonia (+50.8%), Russia (+28.3%) and Poland (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +83.6% from 2012-2022. While the share of Lithuania (+8.5 p.p.), Russia (+8.2 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+4.8 p.p.) and Estonia (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Latvia (-19.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Latvia ($X) remains the largest azo- or azoxy-compounds supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 5.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 4.6% share.

In Latvia, azo- or azoxy-compounds exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+18.9% per year) and Lithuania (+82.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 33% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Azo- Or Azoxy-Compounds Imports

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, supplies from abroad of diazo-, azo- or azoxy-compounds decreased by -15.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, azo- or azoxy-compounds imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importer of diazo-, azo- or azoxy-compounds in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 57% of total imports in 2022. Poland (X tons) held a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (7.1%) and Ukraine (5.2%). The following importers - Lithuania (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each recorded a 5.5% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+18.8%), Belarus (+6.5%), Romania (+6.0%), Lithuania (+5.0%) and Hungary (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ukraine (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+17 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Hungary and Ukraine saw its share reduced by -3% and -13.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported diazo-, azo- or azoxy-compounds in Eastern Europe, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +8.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+18.6% per year) and Hungary (+4.7% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
