Direct Dye Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European direct dye market increased by 7.4% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, exports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 216% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, direct dye exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 267%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Poland dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), generating an 8.7% share of total exports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the direct dyes and preparations based thereon exports, with a CAGR of +64.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+48.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Poland (+71 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+4.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 85% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Poland totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+9.3%).

In 2021, approx. X tons of direct dyes and preparations based thereon were imported in Eastern Europe; with an increase of 24% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, direct dye imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Romania (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 7.7% share, followed by Russia (6.2%). Slovakia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the direct dyes and preparations based thereon imports, with a CAGR of +24.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Romania (+8.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-2.9%), Hungary (-5.0%), Ukraine (-5.3%) and the Czech Republic (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+49 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Hungary (-4.7 p.p.), Slovakia (-5.5 p.p.), Ukraine (-6.7 p.p.), the Czech Republic (-9.4 p.p.) and Russia (-13.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported direct dyes and preparations based thereon in Eastern Europe, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with an 11% share.

In Poland, direct dye imports increased at an average annual rate of +14.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+3.7% per year) and Russia (-4.3% per year).
