The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +20.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 22%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Poland represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 40% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together mixing up a 51% share of total exports. Slovakia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from Poland stood at +2.9%. At the same time, Russia (+9.9%), Hungary (+5.8%), Slovakia (+4.6%), Bulgaria (+4.4%), Romania (+2.5%) and the Czech Republic (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +9.9% from 2012-2022. Export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. Based on 2022 figures, plastic tableware and kitchenware export price increased by +63.4% against 2015 indices. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The purchases of the four major importers of plastic tableware and kitchenware, namely Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Russia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Romania (X tons) held a 9.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (8.9%). Ukraine (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 56% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +11.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 10%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
