Dolomite Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the East European dolomite market increased by 15% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption saw a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, exports of dolomite in Eastern Europe surged to X tons, picking up by 26% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, dolomite exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +72.9% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Slovakia prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) held a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (6.3%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from Slovakia stood at +9.9%. At the same time, Belarus (+26.7%) and Russia (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +26.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus and Slovakia increased by +7.3 and +4.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Slovakia, dolomite exports increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-0.3% per year) and Belarus (+19.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-2.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the fifth year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of dolomite, which increased by 21% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.3% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 23%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +90.6% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Ukraine (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented roughly 80% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), making up a 15% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +21.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest dolomite importing markets in Eastern Europe were Ukraine ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together comprising 81% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +8.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
