The average dry bean yield totaled X tons per ha in 2022, stabilizing at 2021. The yield indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dry bean yield decreased by -0.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 34%. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022. For the third consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded decline in overseas shipments of beans (dry), which decreased by -12.6% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 79%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dry bean exports fell to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -7.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Ukraine represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 37% of total exports. Poland (X tons) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Bulgaria (19%), Latvia (6.4%) and Hungary (4.8%). The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X tons) and Russia (X tons) - each reached a 5.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +40.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 73% of total exports.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +28.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, dry bean imports in Eastern Europe rose rapidly to X tons, picking up by 7.6% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 17%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dry bean imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022.
