Market Size for Duck and Goose Meat in Eastern Europe
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the East European duck and goose meat market, when its value increased by 17% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average duck and goose meat yield was estimated at X kg per head in 2022, with an increase of 2.9% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield, however, saw a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the yield increased by 6.9%. Over the period under review, the duck and goose meat yield attained the peak level at X kg per head in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure.

The level of producing animals peaked at X heads in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, producing animals stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Duck and goose meat exports reduced modestly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -2.6% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, duck and goose meat exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +102.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 58%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) represented the major exporters of duck and goose meat in Eastern Europe, together amounting to approx. 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Bulgaria (X tons), comprising a 14% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, duck and goose meat imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 35%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the largest importer of duck and goose meat, making up 38% of total imports. Slovakia (X tons) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (11%), Russia (8%), Lithuania (6.2%), Hungary (5.8%) and Poland (4.9%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to duck and goose meat imports into the Czech Republic stood at -3.8%. At the same time, Poland (+15.6%), Lithuania (+7.8%), Slovakia (+7.5%) and Romania (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2022. Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Slovakia (+11 p.p.), Romania (+5.5 p.p.), Poland (+3.9 p.p.) and Lithuania (+3.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-9.6 p.p.) and Russia (-17.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest duck and goose meat importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Romania ($X), together accounting for 70% of total imports.
Romania, with a CAGR of +14.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 35% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, duck and goose meat import price increased by +60.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
