Egg Product Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European egg product market rose slightly to $X in 2021, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, egg product production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of egg products decreased by -0.6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, egg product exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the major exporter of egg products, mixing up 69% of total exports. Latvia (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (6.8%). Lithuania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to egg product exports from Poland stood at +9.7%. At the same time, Lithuania (+33.7%), Belarus (+28.0%), Ukraine (+9.2%), Latvia (+4.2%) and the Czech Republic (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +33.7% from 2012-2021. Poland (+15 p.p.), Lithuania (+3 p.p.) and Belarus (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic and Latvia saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -2.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest egg product supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Latvia ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +8.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Latvia (+2.4% per year) and Ukraine (-9.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of egg products decreased by -1.7% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, egg product imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +95.6% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main importers of egg products in 2021, accounting for approx. 24% and 23% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Slovakia (X tons), Romania (X tons), Russia (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Estonia (X tons), together constituting a 46% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +16.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest egg product importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Romania ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +11.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
