Exports in Eastern Europe

For the fourth consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles, which increased by 18% to X units in 2021. In general, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 57%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, bicycle lighting exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 53%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Belarus (X units) and Poland (X units) were the largest exporters of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles in Eastern Europe, together resulting at near 69% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Slovakia (4.6%). Hungary (X units), Russia (X units) and Romania (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +55.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest bicycle lighting supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 7.6% share.

In Poland, bicycle lighting exports increased at an average annual rate of +30.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+23.5% per year) and Slovakia (+5.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, surging by 14% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, bicycle lighting export price increased by +55.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+13.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X units of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles were imported in Eastern Europe; rising by 48% compared with 2020. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Poland was the largest importer of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 36% of total imports in 2021. Russia (X units) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (12%), Hungary (9.4%), Belarus (8.3%) and Bulgaria (5.1%). Romania (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to bicycle lighting imports into Poland stood at +15.9%. At the same time, Belarus (+53.7%), Russia (+16.8%), Hungary (+14.5%), Bulgaria (+12.1%), the Czech Republic (+11.4%) and Romania (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +53.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belarus (+7.8 p.p.), Poland (+6.1 p.p.) and Russia (+3.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-2.1 p.p.) and Romania (-5.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest bicycle lighting importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Bulgaria, Romania, Russia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +22.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 22%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
