Ether Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European ether market contracted to $X in 2022, which is down by -7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Ether Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, ether production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 48% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of ethers increased by 41% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 113%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ether exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 122%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), mixing up a 7.1% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) and Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lithuania (+33.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +33.3% from 2012-2022. Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hungary (-4.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Lithuania increased by +10 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest ether supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 5.9% share.

In Russia, ether exports contracted by an average annual rate of -6.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (-8.2% per year) and Poland (+4.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -27.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, approx. X tons of ethers were imported in Eastern Europe; which is down by -17.2% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ether imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons) represented roughly 55% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (6.1%), Belarus (5.9%), Estonia (5.7%) and Lithuania (5.5%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +29.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Romania ($X) and Russia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 67% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Estonia, Belarus and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Among the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +21.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
