As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, expansible polystyrene exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The biggest shipments were from the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons), together recording 94% of total export. Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest expansible polystyrene supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 76% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Among the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +18.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 80% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Lithuania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

For the sixth consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of expansible polystyrene in primary forms, which increased by 7.9% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland stood at +7.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+6.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+3.2% per year).
