The East European filter paper market expanded sharply to $X in 2021, with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, filter paper exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. In 2021, Poland (X tons) was the main exporter of filter paper and paperboard cut to shape, creating 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), mixing up a 13% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 32%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 9.4%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
