The East European fluorspar market rose modestly to $X in 2021, surging by 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 31%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fluorspar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Russia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together comprising 90% of total exports. The following exporters - Bulgaria (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) - together made up 9.1% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +145.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fluorspar supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Russia ($X) and Slovakia ($X), together comprising 91% of total exports.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +169.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+26.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of fluorspar was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fluorspar imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 78% of total imports in 2021. Ukraine (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took near 13% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - each recorded a 6.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fluorspar imports into Russia stood at -3.1%. Belarus (-1.2%), the Czech Republic (-3.2%), Poland (-5.7%) and Ukraine (-9.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia increased by +5 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorspar in Eastern Europe, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled -4.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ukraine (-7.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (-2.8% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 21%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
