After three years of decline, overseas shipments of flywheels and pulleys increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -10.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, flywheels and pulleys exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Czech Republic (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the largest exporters of flywheels and pulleys, together creating 87% of total exports. Belarus (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +34.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 76% of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, Russia, Hungary and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 21%.
Among the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +52.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+13.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of flywheels and pulleys increased by 7.7% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, flywheels and pulleys imports surged to $X in 2021. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +21.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 25%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Poland was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 33% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Russia (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together constituting a 60% share of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to flywheels and pulleys imports into Poland stood at +5.2%. At the same time, Romania (+12.3%), Russia (+9.5%), Ukraine (+5.6%), Slovakia (+4.6%) and the Czech Republic (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +12.3% from 2012-2021. Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Romania and Russia increased by +4.6 and +4.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flywheels and pulleys in Eastern Europe, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 13% share.
In Poland, flywheels and pulleys imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+8.0% per year) and Hungary (+1.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
