In value terms, fresh fish fillet exports expanded to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 72%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Poland prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 76% of total exports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.6% share, followed by Lithuania (7.5%). Latvia (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +18.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lithuania (+19.9%), the Czech Republic (+19.4%), Latvia (+18.4%) and Estonia (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +19.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Poland (+13 p.p.), Lithuania (+1.9 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Estonia (-5.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest fresh fish fillet supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland amounted to +26.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+31.0% per year) and Lithuania (+21.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 18%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, fresh fish fillet imports in Eastern Europe was estimated at X tons, increasing by 4% compared with the year before. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fresh fish fillet imports into Poland stood at +6.6%. At the same time, Latvia (+28.9%), the Czech Republic (+28.3%), Lithuania (+17.6%), Estonia (+11.6%), Slovakia (+11.2%), Hungary (+9.2%) and Romania (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +28.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Czech Republic, Latvia and Lithuania increased by +16, +6.1 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Latvia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 78% share of total imports.

Latvia, with a CAGR of +37.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +6.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
