In 2022, approx. X tons of frozen fish fillet were exported in Eastern Europe; which is down by -6.5% against the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +18.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 47%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, frozen fish fillet exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 55%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Exports by Country
Russia was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 50% of total exports. Poland (X tons) held a 31% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Lithuania (9.4%). The following exporters - Latvia (X tons), Estonia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 7.9% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest frozen fish fillet supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Lithuania ($X), together comprising 89% of total exports. Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.5%.
Ukraine, with a CAGR of +23.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, frozen fish fillet imports in Eastern Europe declined to X tons, shrinking by -13% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen fish fillet imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 23%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Poland represented the main importer of frozen fish fillet in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 57% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together committing a 28% share of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen fish fillet imports into Poland stood at +2.1%. At the same time, Romania (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +4.4% from 2012-2022. Lithuania and the Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Russia (-7.1%), Belarus (-7.6%) and Ukraine (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland and Romania increased by +16 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen fish fillet in Eastern Europe, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +4.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-1.9% per year) and the Czech Republic (+2.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
