The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +57.7% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, prepared dish and meal exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Poland represented the major exporter of prepared dishes and meals in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 41% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together comprising a 53% share of total exports. Ukraine (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to prepared dish and meal exports from Poland stood at +9.1%. At the same time, Belarus (+16.3%), Bulgaria (+14.7%), Russia (+12.0%), Slovakia (+9.8%), Hungary (+5.9%), Lithuania (+4.3%) and the Czech Republic (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ukraine (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+5.6 p.p.), Russia (+3.6 p.p.), Bulgaria (+2.7 p.p.) and Belarus (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Ukraine saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -4.6% and -6.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest prepared dish and meal supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 9.8% share.

In Poland, prepared dish and meal exports increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+9.4% per year) and Hungary (+9.1% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After three years of decline, overseas purchases of prepared dishes and meals increased by 16% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, prepared dish and meal imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +29.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the largest importers of prepared dishes and meals in 2021, accounting for near 21% and 20% of total imports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Romania (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 45% share of total imports.
