Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen potato exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Poland prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 87% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), generating a 4.6% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+69.7%), Latvia (+11.3%) and the Czech Republic (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +69.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia increased by +4.6 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest frozen potato supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 5% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +4.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+62.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+8.7% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 7.9%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Latvia ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of frozen potatoes in Eastern Europe surged to X tons, rising by 27% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 6.6%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
