In 2021, approx. X tons of frozen whole fish were imported in Eastern Europe; with an increase of 5.9% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen whole fish imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Latvia, with a CAGR of +8.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 7.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
