After three years of decline, shipments abroad of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators increased by 2.4% to X tons in 2021. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Czech Republic was the major exporter of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 78% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), generating a 20% share of total exports.

Exports from the Czech Republic increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +8.0% from 2012-2021. In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Poland stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.5%).

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators increased by 3.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fuse and detonator imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Romania represented the major importer of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 45% of total imports in 2021. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 25% share, followed by Ukraine (12%) and Estonia (12%). The following importers - Slovakia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Romania ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators in Eastern Europe, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Estonia, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Romania was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+7.5% per year) and Estonia (+5.5% per year).
