The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 17%. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +52.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented roughly 52% of total exports in 2021. Bulgaria (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (13%), the Czech Republic (8%), Hungary (5.6%) and Romania (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +13.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

These countries were followed by Romania, Hungary, Lithuania, Russia, Bulgaria and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +9.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
