In 2021, the East European glass fibre filament market was finally on the rise to reach $X after four years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a mild expansion. In value terms, glass fibre filament production expanded modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 38%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, shipments abroad of glass fibre filaments increased by 6.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, glass fibre filament exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Slovakia was the main exporter of glass fibre filaments in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2021. Russia (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (8.9%) and the Czech Republic (8.4%). The following exporters - Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - together made up 7.2% of total exports.
Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of glass fibre filaments. At the same time, Romania (+44.7%), Belarus (+35.4%), Poland (+34.4%) and Russia (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +44.7% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Belarus (+8.2 p.p.), Russia (+4.5 p.p.), Poland (+3.4 p.p.) and Romania (+3.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic and Slovakia saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -17.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the largest glass fibre filament supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 10% share.
In Slovakia, glass fibre filament exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+0.8% per year) and Russia (+6.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, the amount of glass fibre filaments imported in Eastern Europe surged to X tons, jumping by 30% against 2020. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +118.1% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, glass fibre filament imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main importers of glass fibre filaments, together achieving 86% of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +15.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest glass fibre filament importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), together comprising 65% of total imports.
Russia, with a CAGR of +16.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
