Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, crude glycerol export price increased by +108.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia was the key importer of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2021. Ukraine (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons) and Poland (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 38% share of total imports. Bulgaria (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to crude glycerol imports into Russia stood at +60.6%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+120.5%), Poland (+20.4%) and Ukraine (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +120.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+55 p.p.), Poland (+5.4 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ukraine and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -19.1% and -36.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes in Eastern Europe, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +43.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+21.4% per year) and the Czech Republic (-2.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 49% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
