In 2022, the amount of granite (crude) exported in Eastern Europe declined markedly to X tons, with a decrease of -17.7% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crude granite exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Poland prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), achieving an 8.2% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the granite (crude) exports, with a CAGR of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022. Ukraine (-7.6%) and the Czech Republic (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland increased by +12 percentage points.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest crude granite supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 125% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crude granite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Poland prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 79% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons) held a 9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (5.6%). Belarus (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Poland decreased at an average annual rate of -2.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Slovakia (+39.4%), the Czech Republic (+9.1%) and Russia (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +39.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-3.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Slovakia and Russia increased by +5.5 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granite (crude) in Eastern Europe, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 2.2% share.

In Poland, crude granite imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (+37.0% per year) and Russia (-6.9% per year).
