In value terms, grape juice (single strength) exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 397% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Hungary (X tons) was the key exporter of grape juice (single strength), committing 77% of total exports. Romania (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Russia (5.4%). Moldova (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to grape juice (single strength) exports from Hungary stood at +4.6%. At the same time, Romania (+49.5%), Moldova (+21.1%) and Russia (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +49.5% from 2012-2021. Romania (+11 p.p.) and Moldova (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hungary saw its share reduced by -8.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) emerged as the largest grape juice (single strength) supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Hungary was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+42.4% per year) and Russia (+3.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of grape juice (single strength) increased by 20% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 77%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Slovakia (X tons) represented the largest importer of grape juice (single strength), making up 44% of total imports. Poland (X tons) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (10%), the Czech Republic (9.8%) and Russia (6.5%). The following importers - Moldova (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - together made up 10% of total imports.

Imports into Slovakia increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Moldova (+26.5%), Latvia (+19.1%) and Poland (+10.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +26.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Hungary (-2.9%), the Czech Republic (-4.8%), Russia (-8.3%) and Belarus (-18.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Slovakia (+7.7 p.p.), Poland (+7.4 p.p.), Moldova (+3.8 p.p.) and Latvia (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Hungary (-1.9 p.p.), the Czech Republic (-4 p.p.), Russia (-6.4 p.p.) and Belarus (-11 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported grape juice (single strength) in Eastern Europe, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with an 11% share.

In Slovakia, grape juice (single strength) imports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+5.5% per year) and Russia (-3.2% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a slight descent.
