For the ninth consecutive year, the East European grapefruit juice (single strength) market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -27.6% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption showed a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with a decrease of -4.5%. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, grapefruit juice (single strength) exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 51% of total exports. Russia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Hungary (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belarus (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - each resulted at an 8.1% share of total exports.
Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+47.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +47.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-4.5%), Hungary (-7.2%), Belarus (-10.6%) and the Czech Republic (-12.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+28 p.p.) and Slovakia (+9.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Hungary (-2.8 p.p.), Belarus (-3.5 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest grapefruit juice (single strength) supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 78% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +56.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 29%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, approx. X tons of grapefruit juice (single strength) were imported in Eastern Europe; increasing by 8.4% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grapefruit juice (single strength) imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Slovakia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the key importers of grapefruit juice (single strength) in Eastern Europe, together mixing up 60% of total imports. Poland (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Romania (X tons). All these countries together took near 24% share of total imports. Belarus (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Russia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 76% of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Russia and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +25.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 15% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 31%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
