In 2022, the East European graphic papers market increased by 8.3% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, graphic papers production expanded significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of graphic papers was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, graphic papers exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 17%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the key exporter of graphic papers, creating 52% of total exports. Slovakia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Poland (19%) and the Czech Republic (4.6%). Belarus (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of graphic papers. At the same time, Belarus (+5.6%) and the Czech Republic (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +5.6% from 2012-2022. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Czech Republic (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -3.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 87% of total exports. The Czech Republic and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.4%.
Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +6.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, the amount of graphic papers imported in Eastern Europe fell to X tons, dropping by -8.5% on 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Bulgaria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of graphic papers. Bulgaria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Romania (-1.3%), the Czech Republic (-1.7%), Hungary (-2.3%), Slovakia (-2.7%) and Russia (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+6.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported graphic papers in Eastern Europe, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 9.5% share.
In Poland, graphic papers imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+0.6% per year) and Hungary (+0.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 29% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Slovakia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
