In 2022, the average groundnuts yield in Eastern Europe dropped modestly to X tons per ha, flattening at 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, the groundnuts yield hit record highs at X tons per ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of ground-nut (in-shell) in Eastern Europe was estimated at X ha, remaining constant against the year before. In general, the harvested area, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the harvested area increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to groundnuts production reached the peak figure at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of ground-nut (in-shell) decreased by -10.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 434% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, groundnuts exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 382% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) represented roughly 63% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Russia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together generating a 36% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +51.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest groundnuts supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Slovakia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 76% of total exports. Russia, Romania, Lithuania and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +39.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 53%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+18.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, groundnuts imports in Eastern Europe dropped to X tons, shrinking by -3.6% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 22%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, groundnuts imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) represented the major importer of ground-nut (in-shell), committing 38% of total imports. Russia (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Poland (15%), Romania (13%) and Hungary (5.3%). The following importers - the Czech Republic (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - each recorded a 7.7% share of total imports.
Slovakia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ground-nut (in-shell) imports, with a CAGR of +4.1% from 2012 to 2022. Romania and Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Russia (-3.5%), the Czech Republic (-3.6%), Ukraine (-6.7%) and Hungary (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Slovakia (+15 p.p.) and Romania (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Ukraine (-2.8 p.p.), Russia (-4.3 p.p.) and Hungary (-5.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ground-nut (in-shell) in Eastern Europe, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Romania, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Slovakia totaled +2.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-1.2% per year) and Romania (+0.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 9.3%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
