Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) dominates exports structure, together comprising 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together making up a 20% share of total exports. Russia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +71.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest gummed paper supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Belarus ($X), with a combined 83% share of total exports. Romania, Bulgaria and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +66.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of gummed paper and paperboard (excluding self-adhesives), when their volume increased by 8.7% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, gummed paper imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Poland was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 33% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Russia (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together creating a 60% share of total imports.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of gummed paper and paperboard (excluding self-adhesives). At the same time, Ukraine (+8.3%), Hungary (+4.2%), Belarus (+1.6%) and Romania (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ukraine emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-1.2%), Bulgaria (-5.0%) and Russia (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ukraine (+6.9 p.p.) and Hungary (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Bulgaria (-3 p.p.) and Russia (-6.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
