Market Size for Gym and Fitness Equipment in Eastern Europe

After two years of growth, the East European gym and fitness equipment market decreased by -31.7% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Production of Gym and Fitness Equipment in Eastern Europe

In value terms, gym and fitness equipment production rose rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +7.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of production peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the amount of gym and fitness equipment exported in Eastern Europe contracted rapidly to X tons, with a decrease of -15.5% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, gym and fitness equipment exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the four major exporters of gym and fitness equipment, namely Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Russia (X tons) took a 6.9% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Bulgaria (6.4%). Lithuania (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +21.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Hungary ($X) and Slovakia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 62% share of total exports. The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Russia and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +24.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Gym and Fitness Equipment

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of gym and fitness equipment, when their volume decreased by -34.8% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, gym and fitness equipment imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the major importers of gym and fitness equipment in 2022, finishing at approx. 32% and 25% of total imports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Hungary (9.4%) and Romania (6.3%). Slovakia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +12.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 68% of total imports. Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +12.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 18%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
