In 2022, the East European non-alloy steel h-sections market increased by 0.1% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 9.4%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, approx. X tons of h-sections of of non-alloy steel were exported in Eastern Europe; waning by -20.4% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, non-alloy steel h-sections exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 109%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) was the main exporter of h-sections of of non-alloy steel, constituting 44% of total exports. Russia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took near 49% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lithuania (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - each reached a 5.1% share of total exports.

Exports from Poland decreased at an average annual rate of -4.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Latvia (+39.9%), Romania (+21.2%), the Czech Republic (+16.8%), Hungary (+2.3%), Lithuania (+2.2%) and Russia (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +39.9% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Romania, the Czech Republic and Latvia increased by +15, +9.8 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest non-alloy steel h-sections supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Romania (+24.8% per year) and Russia (+0.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, non-alloy steel h-sections export price increased by +92.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Non-alloy steel h-sections imports contracted to X tons in 2022, dropping by -7% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-alloy steel h-sections imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +91.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Russia (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) was the major importer of h-sections of of non-alloy steel in Eastern Europe, committing 99% of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +13.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 58% of total imports. Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +14.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, non-alloy steel h-sections import price increased by +90.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 56% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Latvia ($X per ton) and Estonia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Bulgaria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
