For the third year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons, which increased by 44% to X tons in 2021. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +93.9% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 586%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Poland was the largest exporter of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 78% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), committing a 22% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from Poland stood at +1.8%. At the same time, Russia (+78.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +78.4% from 2012-2021. Russia (+22 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -21.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled +86.3%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -32.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 549% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Poland totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+4.4%).

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a remarkable increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) represented the key importer of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in Eastern Europe, committing 86% of total import. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), constituting a 7.8% share of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in Eastern Europe, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Czech Republic totaled +25.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+3.0% per year) and Hungary (+15.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 63% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
