In 2022, shipments abroad of hand or foot-operated air pumps decreased by -22.9% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 94%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, hand-operated air pump exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Poland was the key exporter of hand or foot-operated air pumps in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 48% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Russia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total exports. The following exporters - Hungary (X units) and Lithuania (X units) - together made up 5.5% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand-operated air pump exports from Poland stood at +7.8%. At the same time, Belarus (+24.4%), Russia (+21.1%), Hungary (+5.8%) and the Czech Republic (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +24.4% from 2012-2022. Lithuania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovakia (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+12 p.p.), Belarus (+9.5 p.p.) and Russia (+6.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic and Slovakia saw its share reduced by -3.9% and -19.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest hand-operated air pump supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland stood at +7.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+11.2% per year) and Slovakia (-7.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 38%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in overseas purchases of hand or foot-operated air pumps, when their volume increased by 1.7% to X units. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, the largest hand-operated air pump importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 65% of total imports. Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +10.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 30%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.
